Low Glycemic Load Foods


Do tortilla chips cause a significant insulin spike?

I’ve been looking into the glycemic index and attempting to eat foods with a low glycemic load to keep my insulin levels normal (fat burning mode) because I’m trying to lose weight!

According to nutritiondata.com, white tortilla chips have 18 g of carbohyrates in a 28 gram serving and an estimated glycemic load of 11. However keep in mind that your cells will prefer to burn glucose hence carbohydrates whenever it can so you actually have to deprive yourself of carbohydrates till your liver uses up all of it’s glycogen so that your cells go into ketosis before you re-introduce some carbohydrates to keep the burn going. Ketosis is the fastest way to burn fat but may not be the safest, nor is it the way to keep the fat off cause the deprivation of carbohydrates tells the body that it needs to store more energy so you’ll just gain back your weight plus some later.
