How much fat is the maximum amount to have in a healthy diet?
Generally speaking, how much of each fat is the maximum amount to have in a healthy diet?
Fat
Trans fat
Saturated fat
Overall fat: 30-35% of total calories.
Trans fat: as little as possible, preferably zero.
Saturated Fat: <7% of total calories. The lower, the better - as long as your fat intake remains adequate. In general, if your main sources of fat are vegetable fats (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc.), this isn't an issue.
Fat is important, but you aren't going to be doing yourself any favors, however, if the other aspects of your diet are not in order.
