The Four Areas to Strengthen in order for Healthy Living
I am often surprise how people do not realize that there are four areas one must strengthen in order for healthy living. These are the four ares in sequential order: 1) Feeding the mind, 2) Feeding the emotion, 3) Feeding the body, and 4) Exercise.
Feeding the mind: There is an old proverb that says, “Sow a thought, reap and action, sow an action, reap a character, sow a character, reap a destiny”. This is all too often the case. People do not watch what they think or do not realize what they are thinking. As a matter of fact, conscious or unconscious our minds are making decisions with or without our consent. This is why people must take accountability for their thinking. One either pays the price of discipline or one pays the price of regret.
This is why it is important to feed your mind with thinking that says, “Yes, today I will eat good and healthy foods.” Whereas when one doesn’t plant this in their minds, what happens is their minds take the easy route. What is the saying, “People who fail to plan, plan to fail.” And, moreover, people fail in the proper and correct thinking when it comes to their health. This is why we have many people who are over weight or have poor health. This is a result of their thinking or not being aware what thinking they are thinking.
Feeding the emotion: There is another saying, it is found somewhere in the Bible, “As a man think in his heart, so is he.” What many people do not realize is that their emotions are affected by their thinking. This is why this Bible quote is correct when it comes to people’s emotions. It is what they think, meaning it is being filtered in their mind; and their emotions act out their thinking. For example, one may think they are lazy, thus their emotions signal they are lazy by physically laying around and being non-productive. Another example is when a person thinks of something that makes them angry; the more they think of what makes them angry the likelihood that their emotions are engaging in this feeling. Thus, the saying, “As a man think in his heart, so is his behavior or action”. Our actions from our thoughts are filtered through our emotions (or heart) and then our physical body acts out these feelings.
Feeding the body: There’s saying that goes like this, “We are what we eat”. This goes in hand with “we are what we think”; which in turn goes to “we are what we feel”, and finally, “we do what we feel”. Now, how does this relate to feeding our bodies. Well, when we eat something we are making a conscious decision as to whether the food we are eating is healthy or unhealthy. Many times, people will eat unhealthy foods because of convenience. It is much easier to drive an automobile home then to walk. Convenience is a form of lack of discipline. It is much easier to order a pizza that can be delivered in a half hour for $5 or $10 than it is to make a salad or tuna sandwich. In the end, thinking and feeling the right things will result in our feeding our bodies with the right foods.
Exercise: Everyone will agree that exercise is important at any age! However, when you look generally around in the US population, there are so many people that are either over weight or unhealthy. Exercise is part of a total comprehensive strategy of having a healthy life. What good is it to exercise when one does not think, feel, and eat (or consume) the right things? This is the case with those who are over weight or unhealthy. It is a dominos effect.
This article would be incomplete if I do not provide a prescription to the four areas that make a healthy living. May I suggest the following in a short response.
Our thoughts are very important. I have coined and have said this, “Master your mind, master you happiness”. The battles that are the most challenging is in our mind. What is it that I heard before, “A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man once.”
It is in the mind that we must feed our thoughts that reinforce or strengthen our outcomes. So, what can we do. The first think is to become educated in what is good and bad food. Find out what foods will achieve the desired outcome. Second, begin to be surrounded by people that have the same like minded goals. Birds of the feather flock to together. If you notice the smart people hang around the smart people, and the rich stay around the rich. Be around people who think healthy and eat healthy.
Our emotions play an important role in how we are influenced. Usually this can be influenced by the music we listen to; listen to music that inspire the habit you are trying to achieve. Sometimes people listen to music that are depressing and they do not recognize it because they are unaware of it. Music creates a level of energy. The more uplifting the more energy. For example, when one listen to the Rocky theme, “The Eye of the Tiger”. This always brings emotions of energy. So, be selective in the music you listen too.
When it comes feeding your body, decide once and for all that you will refuse to eat junk food or fast food all the time for the sake of convenience. Little by little you need to eat Good Foods combined with the right thoughts and music that influence your emotions properly.
Finally, exercise is easy when you have already thought good thoughts and educated yourself as to what you should eat and the types of music you should listen too.
Remember, the four areas require your attention collectively rather than individually for healthy living. When you do so, you will be the most productive and a person filled with energy. Many around you will see the results long after the proper thinking, feeling, and eating has been implemented. You will hear people begin to notice and say, “Hey, you look great or you have really lost weight.” What they do not know is that you have taken small unnoticeable thoughts, feelings, and actions that demonstrate to them that your transformation had all of a sudden surfaced when in actuality you have made the changes months ago.
I leave you with the thought from the movie, “What About Bob starring Bill Murray”. Just take baby steps and you will strengthen the four areas for healthy living.
